Athletes want to perform at their best—confident, composed, and consistent. But even the most talented athletes face moments when their mind holds them back. Pressure builds, confidence fades, mistakes linger, and doubt creeps in.
The problem isn’t physical—it’s mental. They get trapped in overthinking, frustration, or fear of failure. They want to move on to the next play, but their mind keeps replaying the last one. Deep down, they know that what separates good from great isn’t talent—it’s the ability to manage emotions, stay focused, and respond with confidence when it matters most.
That’s where Next Play Mental Performance comes in. As a mental performance coach, we don’t just teach theory—we guide athletes through practical, research-driven tools that fit who they are. Our approach is person-centered, supportive, and tailored to each athlete’s journey. We’ve worked with athletes and performers who’ve learned how to reset, refocus, and respond with purpose after every play.
Together, we follow a simple, effective plan:
Build Awareness — Identify what gets in your way mentally.
Train Skills — Learn and apply tools to control focus, confidence, and emotions.
Perform Consistently — Develop a mentality that allows you to respond, not react—and move forward with purpose.
The next play starts with a choice. You can keep letting frustration, fear, or overthinking control your performance — or you can take the first step toward mastering the way you think.
Schedule a session. Start your mental performance training. Learn how to win the moment and own the next play.
Without addressing the mental side of performance, the same patterns repeat—frustration builds, confidence fades, and potential goes untapped. Talent alone won’t get you to the next level. The difference is mindset, and mindset is trainable.
Athletes who commit to training their mind see a transformation—they compete with confidence, recover faster from mistakes, and perform freely under pressure. They stop chasing perfection and start trusting preparation. They communicate better, lead stronger, and compete with more joy and focus. Every performance becomes an opportunity to grow—not something to fear.
Next Play offers cognitive performance training to assist athletes and performers to compete at a more consistent, optimal level. We work with athletes to develop their mental approach to enhance resilience, overcome obstacles, and elevate performance. Whether you compete professionally or recreationally, mental performance training can help you take your game to the next stage.

Parents and coaches play a critical role in an athlete's mental development. These sessions are designed to help parents and coaches better understand the mental side of performance and learn practical ways to support athletes in healthy, productive ways. Topics could include mastering the car ride home/post-performance conversations, creating environments that support confidence, autonomy, and motivation, promoting the growth mindset, asking behavior-based questions, and establishing clear communication expectations while maintaining trust and connection. The goal is to equip parents or coaches with actionable strategies they can use to support both personal growth and performance

The first session will include a questionnaire or assessment to gauge how the individual currently utilizes mental skills, assess their strengths, recognize areas for improvement, and answer any questions the individual or consultant may have. This is to get to know one another, and make sure the fit is right on both sides. We will get a better understanding of your "Why" and create a plan to get you performing at the level you want to perform at. Individual sessions are personalized for you.
Each session is tailored to the individual. We aim to discuss specific issues impacting performance, enhancing awareness on how one thinks and acts, and how to build our mental toolbox to be able to thrive in any situation sport or life throws at us. Because every individual is unique, there is no set schedule that has to be followed. Common topics are thriving under pressure, dealing with performance anxiety, attention control, imagery, redefining failure, emotional management, and much more. We will create a personalized plan to meet the goals you want to achieve.
Sessions are held over zoom, in person, or over the phone depending on availability and location. In each session we will discuss performance, feedback, and observations recognized from practice and competition from the individual themselves. We will also discuss and apply different mental performance techniques for the individual to try going forward. At the end of each session, the individual will receive mental skill exercises or other applied material to practice what had been discussed during the session.
Team sessions are great to build culture and cohesion, better communication skills, and learn more about the dynamics of your team. First, we meet with coaches and/or leaders to understand team needs and what the team can benefit from. Other topics can include confidence, attentional control, energy management, setting goals, and many more. Sessions are held over zoom or in person, depending on availability and location.
